About US

Who we are

A local response to a shared urban challenge.

Urban Century Institute is a Chattanooga based nonprofit developing, implementing, and sharing practical solutions to the challenges created by rapid urbanization.

We help communities retain meaningful connections between people, nature, history, and place. Our work encourages sustainable land use, strengthens local stewardship, and preserves green space as an essential part of a healthy urban environment.

We work locally and regionally with residents, volunteers, governments, and other partners to develop solutions suited to the places they serve.

Our mission

Make sustainability tangible.

We develop and share practical approaches that empower communities, encourage responsible land use, strengthen stewardship, and keep green space woven into the life of a growing city.

Our vision

People and nature, thriving together.

We envision resilient communities where natural systems, public participation, education, local history, and quality of life reinforce one another.

Help keep nature part of Chattanooga’s story.

Community support makes restoration, education, and long term ecological health  possible. You can help by donating, volunteering, or sharing Urban Century’s work with others.
